Sun Yingsha (left) and Truls Möregårdh (right) won their respective singles tournaments at Europe Smash 2025, and they will have a chance to do the same at WTT Finals 2025 in December (World Table Tennis).

World Table Tennis (WTT) announced the first batch of table tennis stars who have qualified for the WTT Finals 2025.

This season-ending tournament will feature the world’s 16 best men’s and women’s singles players, as well as the top seven mixed doubles tandems plus a wild card duo from the host country. So far, four men’s singles players, four women’s players, and two tandems have earned a spot.

The men’s singles tournament will be headlined by China’s Lin Shidong, the top-ranked player in the world on the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF)’s list. Lin won the Singapore Smash 2025, and he has found himself just within reach of capturing many major tournaments, most recently as the runner-up in the Europe Smash 2025.

Lin will be joined by fellow Chinese star Wang Chuqin (Men’s No. 2), whose resume includes impressive victories at United States Smash 2025, ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals Doha 2025, and WTT Champions Chongqing 2025.

Japan’s Tomokazu Harimoto (Men’s No. 3) takes another spot in the men’s singles tournament. The 21-year-old holds the championship trophy from WTT Champions Yokohama 2025, and he made it to the finals of United States Smash 2025 and the semifinals of WTT Champions Chongqing 2025.

Sweden’s Truls Möregårdh (Men’s No. 5) becomes the first European to qualify for this year’s WTT Finals, not long after becoming the first European to claim a men’s singles Grand Smash title with his victory over Lin to win the Europe Smash 2025. Möregårdh has also reached the semifinals at WTT Champions Yokohama 2025 and ITTF WTT Championships Finals Doha 2025.

The women’s singles tournament will star China’s Sun Yingsha, who has been far and away the best women’s singles player in the world this year. Her 12,200 points in ITTF’s Week 35 rankings are nearly 5,000 more than second place, and her victories at Singapore Smash 2025, ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals Doha 2025, WTT Europe Smash 2025, and WTT Champions Chongqing 2025 prove why she ranks so high.

One of the few tournaments this season that Sun did not win was Champions Yokohama 2025. She made it all the way to the finals before fellow Chinese star Chen Xingtong (Women’s No. 3) took her down. That victory allowed Chen to qualify for this year’s women’s singles tournament, as did her finals appearance at WTT Champions Chongqing 2025 and WTT Champions Incheon 2025, and her semifinal appearance at Singapore Smash 2025.

China’s Kuai Man (Women’s No. 4) may not have a WTT Champions trophy in singles to her name this year, but her impressive finals appearances at WTT Singapore Smash 2025 and ITTF Men’s and Women’s World Cup Macao 2025 showed her opponents that she’s not easy to defeat. That list of accomplishments includes her victory at WTT Star Contender Doha 2025 and her semifinal appearance at the United States Smash 2025.

The winner of United States Smash 2025? None other than Macao’s Zhu Yuling (Women’s No. 7). Zhu also carries with her a finals appearance in WTT Contender Taiyuan 2025, semifinals appearances in WTT Champions Incheon 2025 and WTT Star Contender Ljubljana 2025, and a quarterfinal appearance in Singapore Smash 2025 as she heads to the first WTT Finals of her career.

Kuai and Lin won’t just be tough singles opponents at the WTT Finals 2025, as the duo (Mixed Doubles No. 1) earned the first spot in the mixed doubles tournament after winning an astounding four Grand Smash titles this season. They will be joined by Korea’s Lim Jong-hon and Shin Yubin (Mixed Doubles No. 2), who won WTT Star Contender Ljubljana 2025, WTT Star Contender Chennai 2025 and WTT Contender Zagreb 2025.

The two current second-ranked singles players, China’s Wang Chuqin (Men’s Singles No. 2) and Wang Manyu (Women’s Singles No. 2) have yet to qualify, as do Brazil’s Hugo Calderano (Men’s Singles No. 4), China’s Wang Yidi (Women’s Singles No. 5), and Japan’s Miwa Harimoto (Women’s Singles No. 6). They have until the conclusion of WTT Star Contender Muscat 2025 to do so.

The WTT Finals 2025 will run from Dec. 10-14 and will take place at the Hong Kong Coliseum. Winners will receive not just $1.3 million in USD, but they will be crowned champions of the biggest event of the WTT 2025 season.
