Anders Lind earns his first victory over the world's current top-ranked men's singles player (World Table Tennis).

The tournament of Anders Lind’s life continues.

Denmark’s Lind (Men’s Singles No. 19) defeated China’s Lin Shidong (No. 1), 4-3, in the quarterfinal round of the WTT Champions Macao 2025 on Saturday. This upset over the current world’s top-ranked men’s singles player earns Lind his first WTT Champions semifinal appearance of his career.

Lin, the top-seeded player in this tournament and multiple-time WTT Champions event winner, entered this match as the clear favorite. He had never once lost a WTT bout to Lind, who was about to play the first WTT Champions quarterfinal match of his life.

The first three games were a back-and-forth affair between the two stars. Lin won a close first game by a score of 11-8 before Lind took control of the second game, 11-5. Lin then brought home another close game, 11-7, to put the No. 1 seed up two games to one.

Those three games set up riveting fourth and fifth games, both of which exceeded 11 points. Lind took both by a score of 12-10, putting the match in his favor, 3-2. One more match would complete the biggest upset of this tournament.

Lin wasn’t ready for that to happen. His sixth game was the best individual performance of the match, taking complete control of the table and overpowering Lind with an 11-2 victory to tie the match, forcing a winner-take-all seventh game.

Lin took early control of the seventh game, even leading the underdog 6-3 at the halfway mark of the game. Lind then scored five straight points before Lin next scored, giving the Danish star the lead 8-7.

That would be the final point Lin would earn in this tournament. Lind took three more consecutive points to triumph over the highest-ranked men’s singles player in the world.

As Lin exits the tournament, he becomes the second opponent with a seeded position that Lind took down in this tournament. He knocked out seventh-seed Slovenia’s Darko Jorgic (No. 10) in the round of 32, and he made it to the quarterfinals with a win over China’s Chen Yuanyu (No. 21).

Lind will play against Brazilian superstar Hugo Calderano (No. 4) in his WTT Champions Macao 2025 semifinal game on Sunday. The winner of that match will move on to the finals and face the winner of China’s Wang Chuqin (No. 2) and Korea’s Jang Woojin (No. 28) for the men’s singles title.
