Germany's Sabine Winter (No. 1) defeated compatriot Xiaona Shan (No. 14) 3-0 on Friday and will face Spain's Maria Xiao (No. 12) in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

The quarterfinal matchups for the ETTU Europe Top 16 Cup 2026 were decided on Friday. And they won’t feature some of the names you may have expected to see.

The surprises start at the very top. You won’t see Sweden’s Truls Moregardh, the No. 4 Men’s Singles player and top-ranked man heading into this tournament. That’s because he lost to Portugal’s Marcos Freitas (Men’s No. 13 Seed) in four games during Friday’s Round of 16. You won’t find Romania’s Elizabeta Samara (Women’s No. 6 Seed) either, as she lost a tight five-game race to Spain’s María Xiao (Women’s No. 12 Seed). Dang Qiu (Men’s No. 7 seed), Prithika Pavade (Women’s No. 7 Seed) and Patrick Franziska (Men’s No. 6 seed) all went down before the quarterfinals.

Some players have created a legacy for themselves in this tournament. Freitas wears his victory over Moregardh like a badge of honor. France’s Charlotte Lutz (Women’s No. 17 Seed) went from fighting for a spot in Thursday’s qualifying round to reaching the quarterfinals after demolishing Linda Bergstrom 3-0. Denmark’s Anders Lind (Men’s No. 10 seed), France’s Simon Gauzy (Men’s No. 11 seed) and Portugal’s Fu Yu (Women’s No. 11 seed) all entered the Round of 16 as underdogs and are now among the eight remaining players in their gender. And on Saturday, those final 16 players will compete in the quarterfinals.

All quarterfinal matchups are listed below, organized by who each winner will play next. The winners of each region will compete against one another in the semifinals, and the final two players standing will face off in the ETTU Europe Top 16 Cup Montreux 2026 Finals.
