The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) updated its weekly world rankings for Week 34 on Tuesday, bringing significant shakeups to a men's singles list that have remained relatively dormant for the last few weeks.

Japanese superstar Tomokazu Harimoto overtook Brazil’s Hugo Calderano to become the world's third-ranked men’s singles player, making this week his 250th  inside the top five. Harimoto achieved 6,000 points not long after dazzling the world with his recent victory at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Contender Yokohama earlier this month, which are two of the most recent achievements he has earned during what has been outstanding year for the 22-year-old.

China’s Xiang Peng also rose one spot to become the world’s No. 7 men’s singles player. Xiang surpassed Darko Jorgić to earn this ranking and holds just a minuscule 25-point lead over the Slovenian.

Kanak Jha climbed ten ranks, from No. 31 to No. 21, after becoming the first American to reach the semifinals of a WTT Champions event in Yokohama. Korea’s An Jaehyun rose one spot to become the No. 17 player in the world, knocking Denmark’s Anders Lind back a ranking.

The top two spots remain unchanged from last week, though Lin Shidong’s (Men’s Singles No. 1) lead over Wang Chuqin (Men’s Singles No. 2) has decreased from 750 points to just 50.

The order of the ten best women’s singles players remains unchanged, though China’s Chen Xingtong (No. 3) reached 6,000 points after her WTT Champions Yokohama 2025 victory. China’s Shi Xunyao is the highest-ranked player to see an increase in her placement, rising three spots to become the 12th-ranked women’s singles player in the world.

Some other notable risers on the women’s singles list include Australia’s Yangzi Liu, who rose three spots and now ranks No. 31, America’s Lily Zhang, who climbed four spots and now ranks No. 34, and Canada’s Mo Zhang, who rose five spots and now ranks No. 45.

Many of these players could see an increase in next week’s list, which will be released a few days after the WTT Europe Smash 2025 concludes on Sunday.
